2 shocks in a month
A few weeks back I was sent an old school photo and the old near- death fucker of a teacher in said photo I remembered him to be was actually only about 40 years old at the time. What an eye opener that was

And today I’ve become a Grandad and I’m not even 60.

FMOB, it’s nearly all over

Ag @ Alfs

Thanks all ( even Alfs ) , I had the pleasure of holding my granddaughter yesterday and she made me feel young again , she’s an absolute beauty, West Ham through and through ( swt) and life really can be great at times.

Erh, that really isn't that young to become a Grandad, fella. Do you trouble with simple maths?? Congrats, anyway.

Bungo, I get that a lot.

Not quite as bad as not recognising someone who hasn't aged well, though.

Very difficult to not to blurt out that they've changed so much.

The thing I still have to get used to, is when you see a person that you think might be someone you know.

Then you realise that you knew that person 30 years ago, and that if it WAS them, then they would look considerably older now.

Ho hum.

Re: 2 shocks in a month
Fair play to you Mace, congratulations on the little one

Funny you say that about the teacher, doubtless you are a similar age to me (and most on here apart from Ted).

When I was a kid any woman over forty seemed sexless harridans, compelled to wear one of those turquoise macs and a plastic head scarf things whatever the weather. Milfs and Gilfs a concept beyond possibility
The blokes looked older still and all male teachers had one tie and tweed blazer with elbow pads combo for the duration of my education
I think sartorially we have moved on, imagine duffers our age back then wearing jeans, desert boots/trainers and a polo .....

Re: 2 shocks in a month
Well done Mace. Great isn't it?

I always dreaded my daughter getting pregnant and thought I'd hate being a granddad.

Little Marjie just had her first birthday and I couldn't be happier.

Fuck all to do with me as my daughter's mum went back to Australia when she was one but somehow I have a beautiful granddaughter and her parents are a clinical psychologist and a marine biologist, in a state that has had no covid deaths.

I've spent most of my life hating the fact that my little girl was completely on the other end of the planet and now I'm incredibly grateful.

Funny how things turn out. As I've grown older I've started to think about luck, and thirty years after the worst thing that ever happened turned into the best thing that ever happened.

Enjoy your little baby's baby.

Only 25 years left (on average) once you reach 60.

Yeah, it's nearly over.

If you didn't know about the baby until it was born, then I imagine that would have been a shock!
